Abstract

Final-year students are in a critical phase of completing their studies, which is often accompanied by high academic and psychological pressure. Poorly managed academic stress can negatively affect students’ mental well-being and academic productivity. This study aims to analyze the thematic patterns of stress experienced by final-year students at Universitas Prima Indonesia during the completion of their final projects using a topic modeling approach based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). This research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing narrative text data collected through open-ended questionnaires from at least 50 final-year students selected using purposive sampling. The textual data were processed through preprocessing stages using Python, represented using the Bag-of-Words model, and analyzed with LDA. The results identified three dominant themes: academic pressure related to thesis completion and workload (41.4%), emotional exhaustion and psychological confusion (27.1%), and social dynamics reflecting peer interactions as both sources of support and stress (31.5%). Model evaluation yielded a coherence score of 0.4802, indicating a moderate level of thematic quality. The findings demonstrate that academic stress among final-year students is multidimensional and dynamic. Practically, this study provides a data-driven foundation for higher education institutions to design more holistic academic and psychosocial interventions aimed at improving student well-being and study completion success.
