PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA EDUKASI PARIWISATA BERBASIS GREEN ECONOMY MENGGUNAKAN AUGMENTED REALITY UNTUK MITIGASI BENCANA DAN WISATA BERKELANJUTAN
Abstract
The Lake Toba region is one of Indonesia’s national super-priority tourism destinations, endowed with outstanding natural and cultural assets. Nevertheless, the area faces increasing vulnerability to natural hazards, particularly flash floods and landslides, which have caused significant disruptions to public safety, tourism infrastructure, and local socio-economic conditions. At the same time, public and tourist literacy regarding disaster mitigation and environmentally sustainable tourism practices remains limited. This study addresses this gap by developing an Augmented Reality (AR)-based educational medium that integrates disaster mitigation knowledge with green economy principles to support sustainable tourism development in the Lake Toba area. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, the study involved needs analysis, AR system design, application development, implementation, and evaluation. The resulting AR application delivers immersive disaster simulations and contextual environmental education through interactive 3D visualization and narrative content tailored to real locations around Lake Toba. The findings indicate that the proposed AR-based medium effectively enhances user understanding of disaster risks and sustainable tourism concepts, while offering an engaging and accessible learning experience for diverse user groups. This research contributes a novel, context-aware AR solution that supports disaster preparedness and promotes green economy-based tourism development in disaster-prone destinations.
